Chapter 267 267: 267
When Yang Ze opened the door, the girl was already awake and was struggling to get out of the bed, but because her hands and legs were sealed by the bed, the only thing she could do was to slither her body like a snake, wanting to free herself, but to no avail.
The moment Yang Ze entered the room, her struggle stopped, and her eyes were fixated on his figure.
"Hey, you… You're finally awake." Taking a step forward, Yang Ze stood directly beside her. After making sure that she was fine, he nodded in relief before sitting on a small table just beside her.
"..." The girl didn't reply. She just kept on staring at him, not even blinking for a moment.
As both of them looked at each other in silence, the room was filled with the air of unease. It wasn't until a few minutes had passed that Yang Ze broke the silence.
"How are you feeling?"
"...." What he got in return was another wave of silence.
"Must be feeling weak and hungry." Her lack of communication didn't seem to matter to him as he kept on speaking by himself.
Yang Ze didn't immediately mention the death of other children or ask her why she did that. She had just woken up after trying to kill herself. One could only imagine her state of mind.
Yang Ze didn't want to make things worse, so he decided to have a fresh start…
"While you were asleep, I cooked some food. How about you taste it?"
"...." The girl still didn't answer. Her eyes were still stuck on the middle-aged woman sitting beside her, acting all friendly out of nowhere. He wanted to rush forward and tear her apart. Unfortunately, with her strength and the fact that she couldn't move her body… it was a pipe's dream.
"Then it is decided." Clapping his hands, Yang Ze walked out of the room and first picked up the tonic that he brought at a staggering seven gold coins. The personal selling personally assured Yang Ze of its properties and even gave him a small demo.
After picking up the small bottle of tonic, he headed into the room once more and brought the small bottle in front of her.
"Drink it." Opening the cap, he placed it in front of her mouth.
"It will make you better."
"....." The girl first looked at the potion that was placed directly in front of her lips. She just needed to lift her head a bit, and she would be able to drink it.
She then looked at the woman holding the bottle, gazing at her with pity.
And in that instant, a surge of anger like never before erupted in her mind and soul alike.
She opened her mouth, and just when Yang Ze thought she was going to drink it, she took a deep breath and then…
*Hwak-thu
She spat on his face.
"....."
"....."
For a moment, Yang Ze couldn't even react.
It took a moment for him to realise what had just happened. Feeling the dampness on his face, he wiped his face in a daze before coming back to his senses.
"You little…" Yang Ze almost flew in rage, but managed to hold back.
"Hmph!" With a cold snort, he pried open her lips, placed the bottle on her mouth and then, without any hesitation, emptied it.
"Ummm… ummm…" the girl tried to struggle. Shaking her head, she didn't even want to swallow it and even spit it out, but how could Yang Ze let her do that?
With her feeble strength, she didn't even have the qualifications to struggle against Yang Ze, much less defy him.
In just a few breaths' time, Yang Ze emptied the bottle and then shut her lips with his two fingers, lifted her head gently and didn't move for the next thirty minutes… until the girl swallowed it begrudgingly.
"Good." It was only when she swallowed it that he nodded in satisfaction and released her mouth.
The girl, in anger, wanted to spit at him once again. This was the only act of defiance she could do against the woman who had made her life hell, but how could Yang Ze let her do that?
He simply took a few steps back, making some distance from her while gazing at her.
He wanted to see her scream… he wanted to see her shout in anger… anything to make her release her pent-up grief and anger. Even if it was just momentarily. But to his surprise, the girl didn't do any of that.
She just looked at him in silence, as if wanting to swallow him alive.
"Tch…" Looking at her state, Yang Ze couldn't help but shake his head. It was already a miracle that the girl didn't lose her mind after going through so much. Her rage was perfectly justified.
He wasn't offended by her actions. After all, his appearance was that of a middle-aged woman who tortured her and other children. He would be more worried if the girl didn't hate her.
Letting out a soft breath, he finally began to prepare a meal.
With hundreds of new recipes in his mind, it wasn't going to be a simple stew anymore.
Glancing at the ingredients, Yang Ze began to cook for the first time since coming to this world.
Peeling, washing, chopping, frying… every single step was meticulous. From the way Yang Ze handled it, it was as if he had practised it for countless years.
In just a few minutes, an aroma has already engulfed the room, even making Yang Ze's mouth water.
Yang Ze looked at the figure of the girl in the other room from the corner of his eye, wanting to see her reaction. Just for her, he purposefully left the door open. But to his dismay, she was still looking at his back with a cold expression and murderous eyes.
"...." Yang Ze didn't mind it in the slightest.
After half an hour, he finally managed to cook a simple yet exquisite dish… an aromatic stew.
"Now then…" Looking at the glistening pieces of meat and vegetables, Yang Ze almost wanted to take a bite and finish it himself, but managed to hold back. He first filled up a medium bowl and took it to the other room.
"Eat." Placing the bowl just beside the bed, Yang Ze pointed at it.
"...." From the very start to the end, the girl didn't even look at what he was preparing and what the result was. Her eyes were always stuck on him.
"Eat." Yang Ze once again spoke while pointing towards the bowl, but the girl didn't even glance at it.
"....."
"You little…" After constantly being ignored by her, Yang Ze was beginning to get frustrated. He thought for a moment and, upon seeing her gaze filled with hatred, decided to play along.
"With your current strength, killing me and getting revenge is just a pipe dream."
"If you truly wish for revenge, how about filling your stomach first?"
Yang Ze's words made the girl narrow her eyes in response. She didn't know why this evil bitch was suddenly acting as a saint, but her words finally brought a change in her expression.
"I am gonna free you now. Just eat your food quietly, and then, I will teach you how to cultivate."
"Don't you want revenge? I am gonna give you a way."
"Let me see how far you can go."
With these words, Yang Ze tapped the bed, finally freeing the girl's hand and legs.
He was ready for her to pounce upon him again like an animal, wanting to tear his throat, but to his surprise, she quietly sat up, gazed at him and then, under his expectant gaze, picked up the bowl before devouring the food.
"...." Yang Ze finally let out a sigh of relief before nodding and walking out of the room.
"If you need more, there is plenty here."
"Help yourself."
The girl paused momentarily before she busied herself with the food. She had almost forgotten the taste of the real food.
When was the last time she ate a warm meal?
At home?
Thinking about her home, there were finally some changes in her usual emotionless eyes that she suppressed again.
Once she finished the meal, she looked around for a while, but after not finding a single pointy and sharp thing, simply walked out of the room.
Outside, Yang Ze was already sitting on the table with a comfortable expression on his face and an empty bowl just beside him.
"Oh! Do you want more?"
The girl merely placed the pot on the table and began to look around, as if searching for something.
"IF you are looking for the exit, it is up." Noticing her gaze, Yang Ze pointed towards the roof of the basement where a small ladder was placed. For cultivators, it was child's play to pull it down, but for mortals, especially a girl so young, it was next to impossible.
"Like I promised you. I am gonna teach you cultivation now." Yang Ze himself didn't know why he was going to such lengths for the girl.
After saving her life, he should have let her go by herself, or in an extreme case scenario, personally sent her to the nearby town. There was no need to go to such lengths.
Perhaps it was due to the guilt of letting the previous children die, or perhaps because she was extremely identical to his sister… whatever the reason might have been, Yang Ze decided to help her out.
Besides… teaching her wasn't going to take much of his time, and he wanted to confirm some of his own lingering suspicions.
Reaching inside his robe, he took out a book and gently slid it towards the girl.
"This is called Thousand Years Art. A cultivation technique that I practise."
"If you can master it, getting stronger will only be a matter of time."
Yagn Ze then began to teach her some basic knowledge about cultivation, the classification of realms, as well as the various techniques that people use.
Throughout the entire time, the girl didn't speak a word. She just listened intently, as if wanting to carve every single word in her mind and soul.
But lecturing her wasn't the end.
Yang Ze personally taught her the set of breathing exercises and demonstrated how to practise them.
This first lesson of his lasted for hours. It wasn't until there was a knock on the door that he finally finished his lesson, threw her back in the room, locked it from the outside and walked out to meet the person on the door.
"You are?" Opening the door, Yang Ze was greeted by the sight of two guards clad in black robes silently standing there.
"There are a few questions that we need to ask you." The guards didn't give him a chance to refuse. As soon as they finished speaking, they walked directly inside, not even bothering to wipe the mud off their shoes.
"Have you seen this person?"
Once inside the room, they immediately asked while taking out the sketch of a young, lively girl.
How could Yang Ze not recognise his own disguise? This was the exact face that he used to enter the imperial city.
Initially, he didn't know why they made a sketch of him during registration. It was only now that he realised why.
"....." Looking at the lifelike sketch in his hands, his brow furrowed before he shook his head in response.
"I can't remember."
"I have been busy trying to come up with a new product, so I am unaware of the things going on around."
"What happened?"
"Who is this girl?"
The guards didn't reply. They simply handed the sketch to him and walked out of the house, leaving behind a single sentence.
"If you do see her, inform us."
"There is a reward of ten thousand gold coins for this girl."
After throwing this set of instructions, their figure disappeared in the rain.
Yang Ze walked their departing back for a while and was about to turn around and head back to the basement when he caught a glimpse of an incoming figure.
It was the figure of a woman leisurely making her way towards him.
Just a single glance was enough to tell Yang Ze the identity of the newcomer… The target of his system mission…
Chen Meili.
