Chapter 123: Beast Tide
Chapter 123: Beast Tide
A month had passed, and the beast tide had started since two weeks now. To everyone’s surprise, the beast tide was greater than they expected. There were several Master Stage spirit beasts and hundreds of Advanced Stage spirit beasts. In fact, there were even a few King Stage spirit beasts.
The beasts had migrated from the north of the Orchid Province, marching south. Although it seemed like the eastern and western parts of the Orchid Province were safe, they weren’t.
The migrating beast tide moved like a parasite, devouring anything in their path.
Several small clans were erased from the surface of the world, doomed to be nutrition for the beasts.
In the western part of the Orchid Province, the Moonveil Clan was currently facing the worst tide of spirit beasts they had encountered since the tide began.
Naturally, what they were facing was just a tiny portion of the tide that had branched over to devour the clan.
Patriarch Gomen stood on the barricaded walls, watching the horde of black Shadow Wolves rush towards his clan.
Beside him stood Elder Cassius, his uncle. The two men had grim expressions on their faces.
"What do you think?" The patriarch asked.
Sighing, Elder Cassius replied, "There are some Master Stage and many Advanced Stage spirit beasts, and the Beginner Stage spirit beasts aren’t to be overlooked."
"That’s true," Gomen nodded. He looked back into the clan where the warriors of the clan were waiting for his orders.
After six years, the Moonveil Clan had grown to become a big clan, with several warriors at the Advanced Stage. There were even a few that were already at the Initial Master Stage.
The clan army had grown exponentially, and they were now a powerful force in the region. However, before this wild tide of spirit beasts, they felt wary.
Soon, two figures appeared beside the patriarch, wearing the Inner Court robes of Soul Cross Sect.
Gomen and Cassius turned to them and spoke respectfully.
"Esteemed guests."
The two disciples glanced at each other and nodded towards the men. Then, they looked at the coming tide.
"Looks troublesome. But we should handle it as fast as we can," One of them said, unsheathing his sword.
The other nodded, holding a battle-axe in his hand.
Patriarch Gomen nodded, "Good. We will attack now."
Then, he turned to face his warriors and shouted in a loud voice.
"Open the gates! Moonveil Warriors, protect your family! Defend your home!"
UWOOOOOOOOHHH-!!!
Cheers erupted from inside the walls, and the gates groaned as they were opened. The warriors poured outside like water released from a dam, seemingly endless.
Soon, they were all out and stood before their home, glaring at the approaching beasts. Archers climbed up the walls and took their positions, waiting for command.
Gomen watched the beast’s draw close, then he said in a calm voice.
"Fire."
The archers released a wave of arrows and other projectiles coated in destructive elements.
The projectiles shot into the air at an incredible speed, rapidly descending on the advancing beasts.
Soon, chaos erupted.
Bang!
The first arrow landed on the ground, exploding and injuring the beasts around it. The others landed, dealing killing blows to the spirit beasts at the front of the horde.
Corpses dropped to the ground, and the other spirit beasts stepped over them with a maddened frenzy.
"Beasts..."
Seeing them treat their own mates like that, the Moonveil warriors were filled with disgust. At the forefront, Toma, one of the kids that had come from Seraph’s generation, raised his spear, watching as the beasts got close.
After seeing Seraph use a spear during their first mission in school back then, he had grown infatuated with spears, training so much that he had become the most proficient spear user in the clan.
"Come! Golgis!"
Letting out a war cry, he enveloped the spear in flames, then stabbed the Shadow Wolf that had jumped at him, in the throat.
The spirit beast struggled briefly before it collapsed to the ground, dead. The other warriors around him had also engaged the beasts, tearing into them with their weapons and elemental attacks.
"Die!"
The human warriors were filled with vigor, just as much as the beasts were filled with madness. The beasts died at the hands of the humans, and vice versa.
Several warriors were ripped apart by stronger beasts, their bodies devoured on the spot.
Gomen’s expression hardened, and he dived into battle. Cassius joined him, alongside the two disciples of Soul Peak.
Instantly, everyone felt the tide change. The beasts began dying faster, while the humans killed more.
However, the four strong experts didn’t focus on killing the weaker spirit beasts.
"Target the strong ones!" Gomen said, dashing straight at one of the large Master Stage Shadow Wolves on the battlefield.
His sword blocked the claws of the wolf, and he slammed his foot into its chest.
A ball of water burst from the collision, drilling a small wound into the Shadow wolf’s body.
It stumbled back, then lunged at him. Gomen’s eyes narrowed, sensing its aura. It was a Rank Two Master Stage Shadow Wolf, equivalent to his own cultivation of a Core Master Stage cultivator.
’I can kill it, then.’
His eyes sharpened with killing intent, and he dashed at the beast too. He narrowly avoided its claws and used his sword to knock aside its mouth.
Landing on the ground, he sliced at empty air, and a large water blade manifested, carving a line of blood on the beast.
The wolf roared, then swiped its claws at him. A pair of claw marks made of darkness shot towards him, causing him to grow tense.
"Water bubble!"
He immediately used a defense skill, creating a bubble around himself. The claws crashed against his defense, then shattered. At the same time, the water bubble cracked and rippled.
However, the beast wasn’t done. It immediately threw more shadow claws at him, causing more cracks to appear on the bubble.
In just a few minutes, the bubble was on the verge of collapsing. Seeing this, the wolf rushed at him with its jaw wide open.
Patriarch Gomen dismissed the water bubble, then fired a water arrow at the beast. It shot into its mouth, choking it as it recoiled in pain.
The man shot after it, then swung his sword at its neck. It tried to attack him with its claws, but he easily blocked with another water bubble.
Slice!
His sword cleaved through its neck, and the beast’s head fell to the ground.
Gomen landed on the body, then looked around. His warriors were still embroiled in the heated battle. Elder Cassius was some distance away, facing three Rank Three Advanced Stage spirit beasts.
He was at the Initial Master Stage, so he had no problems facing the three Shadow Wolves.
As for the two Peak Advanced Stage disciples, they had just finished killing one Master Stage wolf and were moving on to another.
Patriarch Gomen nodded in satisfaction, then dashed after another Master Stage wolf that had just injured one of his warrior.
Seeing him still agile like this, Cassius smile.
’This boy is still young and healthy. Unlike me, my back hurts.’
He complained lazily as he fought against the remaining two wolves after killing one of them. His sword hacked down on the nearest wolf, augmented by the wind.
Slice!
It dodged his attack, but lost a leg because of it. Cassius smiled wickedly, his old face looking weird with the smile.
"You’ll still die," He said to it.
Just like he said, the beast died to his blade a few moments later. The last one also died soon enough, and he threw its head away with a snort.
"Damned beasts dared attack my clan? Courting death!"
He stomped on the ground, and the surrounding Beginner Stage wolves were blown away by a fierce wind.
He raised a hand and shouted, "Wind tornado!"
Around him, the wind stirred, and several wolves were caught up in the attack, being tossed around like toys.
Cassius sent them flying with a wave of his hand, then he studied the battlefield. They were surely winning the beasts, but the pace was slow, especially for the mob.
If the battle continued at this pace, then even if they won, the losses would be too severe.
He frowned, not knowing what could be done. Every other strong person was tied up with taking down the Master Stage spirit beasts in the horde, and they couldn’t assist with killing the weaker beasts. This meant he was the only one available for this mission.
’Ah, my old bones. I wish that brat Seraph was here.’
He twisted his waist in an attempt to stretch his bones, but only felt pain, so he gave up the idea.
"Oh ye mad beasts, hear the call of the wind, and know your judgement—Wind Disaster!"
He unleashed his strongest elemental attack, shredding over fifty wolves into pieces. The Moonveil warriors stared at him in reverence, then cheered.
However, their cheers were drowned out by a loud howl coming from behind the beast horde.
